Nike will again work with sacai in 2020, after a well-received 2019 collaboration that mashed together multiple Nike models to create the Nike LD Waffle. This year, even more Nike models are smooshed together, bringing us the sacai x Nike VaporWaffle. sacai’s head, Chitose Abe, revealed the 2020 release at her FW20 Paris Fashion Week runway show, and below are some leaked close-up images.
DESIGN:
Exactly like its predecessor, the sacai x Nike VaporWaffle mashes together multiple models, with the PEG Nike Vaporfly SP injecting a high-tech performance vibe into the old-school Nike Waffle silhouette. The leaked images feature a wild array of colorways including Tour Yellow, Villian Red, and Sport Fuchsia. Similarly to the LD Waffle, a set of neutral colored VaporWaffles will also eventually release.
ANALYSIS:
The sacai x Nike LD Waffle was a hit last year, and the two brands look to capitalize on that success with another melding of Nike models old and new. This model looks even more precariously stacked than the original LD Waffle, and certain proportions are slightly harder to swallow (the lacing system goes DEEP into the toebox, which is pretty unusual). However, sneakerheads and fashionistas alike will most likely highly covet these shoes, even if just to resell.
RELEASE INFORMATION:
The sacai x Nike VaporWaffle will retail at $180 and release sometime in Fall 2020. No further information is available at this time.
