Reebok and Juun.J Drop the Unreleased Reebok Court Pump

QUICK TAKE:

While many have said the period of streetwear in high fashion has passed, there are still plenty of designers employing athletic footwear on the runway. Juun.J is one brand that continued the sneaker trend at Paris Fashion Week 2020, surprising many by revealing a previously unreleased Reebok model: the Reebok Court Pump. The sneaker was originally designed by Steve Smith, creator of the Reebok Instapump Fury, but never released. The model is now finally getting its time to shine in two clean colorways years later brought to us by Juun.J and Reebok.

DESIGN:

The Reebok Court Pump heavily resembles the Instapump Fury, an iconic shoe in its own right. However, the Court Pump features a more futuristic, sleek silhouette, while still offering a retro feel with classic Reebok fastening technical system. Something about the brand Reebok always seems retro, as well.

Juun.J chose to use metallic leathers and a simple monochromatic palette to coincide with its new line. The colorways also serve to accentuate the technical aspects of the shoe. The collaboration sticks to Steve Smith’s original design, featuring the forefoot technical fastening system and external hand pump lockdown, along with additional hardshell panelling wrapped around a mesh base. Juun.J’s biggest addition to the shoe is a large TPU heel counter that gives the model a more modern look. The shoe will release in two colorways, a triple white variation seen above, and a metallic silver and gray model seen below.

ANALYSIS:

Juun.J and Reebok created a collection of unisex apparel that goes along with the newly released Reebok Court Pump, blending Reebok heritage with youth street culture vibes. Reebok is a brand that has seen numerous direction changes in the last few years, struggling to find a clear path to continued success. Going from a logo change and Crossfit focus, to now leaning heavily into retro styles it is important to maximize collaborations like this.

The Reebok Court Pump does just that, melding a model and technology unique to Reebok with the creativity of the design team at Juun.J. The two brands did a great job of bringing their specific flair to this release.

RELEASE INFORMATION:

The Juun.J x Reebok Pump Court is expected to release in September 2020 for $280.
