Quick Take:
Led by tenured designer Jun Takahashi, UNDERCOVER has worked with Nike on numerous projects over the years, including Nike Daybreak model with sinister-looking heel enhancements. This time around, Takahashi, who is an avid runner, gives the Nike Gyakusou Pegasus 36 Trail a stylish makeover.

Design:
While most of the UNDERCOVER x Nike collaborative projects have featured shoes with dark colorways, they two pair up with different intentions this time. Yellow/grey and red/navy are used to cover a majority of these new models. Both feature white midsoles and toecaps. UNDERCOVER spices up the model with a rose emerging from the lateral Swoosh. At the tip of the toe box the print “GYAKUSOU WENT THE DISTANCE” is featured, as well as a revolving Swoosh logo on “Gyakusou” over top of it on the heel. The insole also features further Gyakusou branding.
Analysis:
UNDERCOVER goes in a totally different direction than the models they released just this June. While the Nike Daybreak offered a retro silhouette that the brand modified, the Nike Gyakusou Pegasus 36 already has a unique make-up. This gave UNDERCOVER the chance to focus on a unique colorway. The use of the rose motif and bright colors pays homage to retro running styles, as well as pointing to a future of brighter colors for both brands, hopefully. It is a great change of pace for UNDERCOVER and highlights another of Nike’s oft-overlooked trail running models.
