Beauty & Youth x New Balance for the “997H Leather Pack”

QUICK TAKE:

The New Balance 997H has seen its fair share of colorways released in 2019, and this trend continues with a simple collaboration with Beauty & Youth. The ‘H’ in 997H stands for “Hypothesis”, as the timeless 997 model has been enhanced with modern day technology. Beauty & Youth is one of the subbrands of United Arrow, who have already brought a variety of solid collaborative projects to the table with New Balance. This time, they clean up the model with black and white monochromatic leather colorways.

DESIGN:

Both shoes feature monochromatic colorways of white and black. The black pair seems to have a glossier finish, but otherwise both shoes feature no frills or bells and whistles- just the model and its details simplified by a single color. The white shoe does feature black accents for the logos.

ANALYSIS:

The 997H may have been overplayed at this point, after so many different colorway variations. However, you can never go long with monochromatic colorways, especially when applied to a nice leather base. The updated technology and material features on the 997H also provide the wearer with a comfortable, lightweight ride. Modern additions can be found in the form of new GCEVA foam and a retooled ENCAP midsole. Other modern fabrics and materials are also incorporated into the shoe for breathability and weight reduction.

RELEASE INFORMATION:

The price has also been substantially reduced with this modern take on the 997, as each pair of the BEAUTY & YOUTH x New Balance 997H Leather Pack will retail for ¥12,852 JPY (approximately $120 USD). Those interested can find them online now over at UNITED ARROWS and in-store at Beauty & Youth UNITED ARROWS Shibuya.
