No Vacancy Inn have teased another collaboration with New balance via the Instagram account of proprietor Tremaine Emory. The sneak peek revealed a New Balance 650 model seen below. Emory captioned his Instagram post with “More water…more wifi….soon.” This phrase has been a recurring theme on No Vacancy Inn products, most recently the brand’s collaborative New Balance 990v3, and it appears the brand will continue the theme with this newest project.
DESIGN:
The New Balance 650 is an interesting model that has not seen much run. Currently, you can get a pair from Urban Outfitters, as a part of UO’s effort to sell only trendy, chunky dad models, currently. However, this collaborative model seems to be much more carefully constructed and colored. At its base, the shoe has a mesh and leather construction in neutral tan tones. Suede overlays are used on the toe box, eyelets, and heel to provide texture and variation from the leather. Finally, rubberized New Balance branding is present on the sides and stitched on the tongue, along with ‘No Vacancy Inn’. This all sits on a chunky midsole with ENCAP technology and a gum outsole.
ANALYSIS:
In my opinion, this model is much more interesting than the New Balance 990 that the two brands originally released together this year. While the color template was clean, the 990v3 is sstill not a great silhouette, almost too ‘Dad-shoe’ for its own good. With the 650, No Vacancy Inn gets a chance to continue pushing the “More Water… More Wifi” story.
