QUICK TAKE:
Even with the retro ‘dad shoe’ fad seeming to simmer down, brands are still looking to introduce or re-introduce their final offerings to the hottest footwear trend in recent years. adidas has primarily ridden the Yeezy wave in the dad shoe-department, but have still created a few models to mix it up. Here, the adidas introduces the EQT Gazelle.
DESIGN:
The runner looks like it is straight out of the ’90s, even down to the two colorways presented. One shoe features a navy/volt color way while the other has an orange/purple look that reminds of the Phoenix Suns color palette. Perfect for the summer and perfect for your full retro fit. The shoe has a two piece midsole, with the forefoot featuring the volt and purple color pop. The most interesting design features still has to be the Three Stripes that clash with an extended mudguard that rises from the forefoot up to the eyelets of the shoe.
ANALYSIS:
Is it too late to be presenting models that clearly belong in an era over 20 years ago? I’m not sure, to be completely honest. I like this model, but there is something about adidas just designing it that makes it a little less exciting. If you want to continue using the dad shoe-motif, then at least put high-end tech into the shoes. This model is nice, but really seems like it will end up in the discount bin shortly.
