QUICK TAKE:
Greek basketball player Giannis Antetokounmpo has been dominating the National Basketball Association with his huge frame and freakish athleticism for the past few years, seemingly expanding his game by the day. Now, the man dubbed the ‘Greek Freak’ will expand his personal brand with his own Nike signature basketball shoe, the Freak 1. Keep reading to s

DESIGN:
While the Internet has seen a variety of different Freak 1 colorways (pictured below), the initial release will be a simple black and white scheme. The shoes primary feature is an oversized, backwards Nike Swoosh that serves to shape out the midsole on the lateral side of the shoe. The medial portion features a smaller swoosh, and Giannis’s personal branding appears on the heel and tongue of the shoe. The low-cut sneaker comes equipped with a textile upper and fuse overlays, but overall is fairly simple, resembling the Kobe signature shoes he often wore during the 2019 season. The outsole combines a white and translucent base, with the translucent portion wrapping around the sole into the upper on the lateral toebox and medial heel portions of the shoe.

ANALYSIS:
The Freak 1 signature shoe actively exhibits the raw power and speed the Greek Freak plays with on the NBA court. The backwards swoosh was used in Paul George’s signature shoe, but the sheer size of it this time around speaks to the size of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The model should be a hit with many young athletes whose first experience with basketball has been seeing rim-rattling free throw line dunks from the Milwaukee Bucks star.
