Nike continues to drop information on the various releases for its upcoming Air Max Day on March 26th, 2019. Yesterday, the brand released the first images of the Nike Air Max 180 “BLN”. This project was developed as a tribute to the city of Berlin’s vibrant music scene and honor culture and creativity that has flourished in the city since the fall of Berlin wall in 1991.
Design:
The Nike Air Max 180 “BLN” brings neon shades of green and pink underneath a grey mesh, a fusion created to illustrate the juxtaposition between Berlin’s celebrated club culture and brutalist architecture. The outsole utilizes a combination of black, neon green and transparent white, with the words “UNITY” and “FREEDOM” in bold capital letters.
Analysis:
The Nike Air Max 180 debuted in 1991, the same year the Berlin Wall would fall, unifying the East and West portions of the city. This momentous occasion in human history would create a city unified in a way like none other, which birthed a still flourishing creative and cultural scene. Nike has taken a great opportunity to capitalize on history and create a great product.
