2020 is the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 5, and Jordan Brand is giving sneakerheads a variety of iterations of the iconic original silhouette to celebrate this year. JB is starting off with a bang, choosing to re-release the Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” with metallic silver tongues on March 28th. This will be the first time this specific colorway (with no stitched ’23’) has gotten released since 1999, giving the pair a special air.
The 2020 retro of the Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” mimics all of the details of the original pair from the 90s. The white base and red and black detailing sit atop an icy blue clear sole. The reflective tongue and Nike branding on the heel are the perfect details to wrap the classic model together.
The March 28th release date was chosen to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the day Michael Jordan scored 69 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers- while rocking the Air Jordan 5 ‘Fire Red’. Even as the brand has seemingly saturated the market with retros, this revered colorway has been kept on the shelves. It feels a bit more special now that the release takes place on a day that is important to Jordan’s personal legacy.
The Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” retro is expected to release at select retailers and Nike SNKRS on March 28th, 2020 for $200.
