QUICK TAKE:
Nike brings back another chunky classic from the depths of its extensive archive, this time re-releasing the Nike Air Barrage mid, which initially debuted in 1995. Now, this thick beast of a shoe will return in a colorway that resembles the classic Toronto Raptors jerseys.

DESIGN:
This solid retro features a purple mesh base with a white leather toebox. Black suede overlays the mesh, and the white toebox melts into a white sole unit. Red is used to pop Nike Swoosh and ‘Air’ branding, as well as on the eyelets and heel tab. Finally, thick white Swooshes rest on the midfoot strap and on the lateral side of the shoe, with further Nike branding on the tongue and heel.

ANALYSIS:
To a certain extent, this shoe seems a little late and ill-timed. A thick black shoe like this is not great for the summer heat, and although chunky is still in, the general trend has been away from high or mid-top footwear. While it’s never a negative to have more options, it seems like this re-release could have been a bit earlier or later in the year.
However, the pair’s saving grace is the Raptors colorway. If the pride of Canadian basketball can defeat the Golden State Warriors in this year’s NBA Finals, there is a chance that these fly off the shelves for adoring fans.

RELEASE INFORMATION:
The Nike Air Barrage Mid has already begun to release across the pond, with no set date for a Stateside release. However, you can expect these to pop up on Nike.com soon.
